Save the club wear for Saturday nights
To the Editor:
This is an open letter to the woman I saw in the University Community
Centre. Your shirt said “NICE RACK.” No one could argue with
the truth of that statement, but I’ve been wondering why you wanted
to draw attention to the obvious in such a demeaning way. My friends and
I spent a little time discussing your message. Please respect yourself
and pick another shirt to wear.

Don't judge by a T-shirt

To the Editor:
This is in response to the letter written recently by an Inter-Varsity
Christian Fellowship member referring to a T-shirt I was wearing while
in the University Community Centre.
My mom bought me the T-shirt which, on the back, reads “Third Rail’s
Twisted Cue, Pool Hall Bar & Grill” — which I guess he
both failed to notice and mention. He did notice the front though, which
reads “Nice Rack.” If the real purpose of the open letter
(to me) is genuine concern about my not having respect for myself, then
rest assured, I have a great deal of respect for both myself and others.
I was at the UCC all day rehearsing for Infusion, the only event on campus
that raises money for cancer survivors. For months I put in over 40 hours
a week for this event because I want the family of a cancer survivor to
be able to send their child to university.
Hayden, might I ask what you do that consistently demonstrates your respect
for others? Thus far I know that you sit around with your friends, who
I can only assume are also members of this Inter-Varsity Judging Team,
and converse (or perverse) about such large, or small topics.
Do consider refocusing your energies and concentrating your efforts on
something meaningful. It isn’t necessary to voice your uninformed
notions of people in such a manner. How about doing something more immediate,
useful and perhaps charitable with your time and then you too can earn
the right to wear a T-shirt that brings smiles to people’s faces.
In the meantime, learn to laugh at life. All the breast in your endeavours.
